Experienced in project management and design, I specialise in creating impactful visual communications. Recently, I led a project to design a billboard for a high-traffic area, which included the installation of a billboard stand.

The client would like to install a new billboard, on a developing road with high traffic to attract potential hires due to the opening of MAHSA's new specialist hospital, MSH.

During the course of the project, we encountered several challenges:

  • Accurate billboard stand measurements:
To ensure the size is strategic for viewing from the nearby road, precise measurements such as the height and length of the billboard stand must be obtained.

  • Board approval:
The company’s board of directors required a visual representation of the billboard stand before proceeding with the design production of the billboard.

  • Installation licensing:
The government require private institutions to register and pay for the installation, licensing and rental to the Malaysian Highway Authority before proceeding with the installation.

To overcome these challenges, we implemented the following steps:

  • On-site measurements:
We visited the site to survey the soil compatibility for the billboard stand and then measured the longest length and highest height possible to gauge the probable size of the billboard stand and the design.

  • Mockup presentations:
I designed an isometric view of the billboard with easy-to-understand illustrations and provided the client with detailed mockups to help visualize the final design and gain approval from the board.

  • Licensing task handover:
The hospital administration agreed to handle the licensing task, while I can
    focus on the designs.

The project was completed, and the client is pleased with the outcome. The billboard stand was installed, and the design met the client’s expectations.

At the end of the project, I have learnt the importance of designing and providing a functional visual representative to help clients understand the project direction better. I also learnt that licensing is crucial when advertising in public space.
